The Curriculum
New Zealand is one of the first places in the world to have an early childhood curriculum. This curriculum,
known as Te Whariki came into being in 1996, after intensive research and consultation throughout the early
childhood sector.
Te Whariki embraces the holistic development of the child and has helped to formalise quality educational
systems that were already in place in New Zealand Kindergartens.
